In the year that marks the 60th anniversary of the Military Coup, the neglect of violations of constitutional rights is persistent. The period in which terror took hold, between 1964 and 1985, was marked by the deprivation of civil rights and liberties, political persecution and the most perverse forms of physical and moral violence. In this scenario, memory policies, implemented by Truth Commissions, are fundamental in the democratization process. Therefore, the present work intends to psychosocially analyze the consequences of memory policies developed in the municipality of Juiz de Fora-MG in relation to the military dictatorship. Through documentary analysis of the final report of the Juiz de Fora Municipal Truth Commission, associated with recent news that reports both the permanence of the dictatorship's ideology and the resistance movements fundamental to democratization. Therefore, disputes were observed in the field of memory of the Military Dictatorship: on the one hand, a long path of threats to democracy, culminating more recently in the silencing of the issue by the President of the Republic, on the other hand, the strengthening of memory policies in the municipality, thus revealing the contradictions intrinsic to the study of memory and forgetting.
