The aim of this work was to evaluate the structure, development and functioning of the family of a pregnant teenager. It was a qualitative research of the case study type, conducted from February to April 2008. The scenarios of the study were the Association of the Residents of Morro da Vitória in Fortaleza and the house of the teenager. The data were collected and analyzed using the Calgary Model of Family Assessment. As for the structural aspect, the family lives in a situation of financial instability which is exacerbated by the birth of the child. Concerning the “developmental” aspect of the family, it was realized that there was a changed due to unplanned pregnancy of the adolescent. In the functional aspect, her pregnancy prevented her from continuing with some extracurricular activities. As for the other family members, they also had to change their routines to support the teenager taking care of her child. The application of the Calgary Model enabled the evaluation of the family in all aspects, allowing them to trace interventions that have changed their reality and eased their problems.
