Abstract

The use of cultivation models enables a saving of time, work and amount of resources to make decisions in the agricultural sector. It also makes capable a forecast of the process of interest and/or a better agreement of the system in study. This paper aims to test some models to estimate the productivity of corn grains in the soil and climate conditions of the Parnaíba region, Piauí State, Brazil. The meteorological and corn productivity data were obtained from experiments plots from 1994 to 2002 in Parnaíba , Piauí State. The crop models tested to estimate the productivity were: Jensen (1968), Minhas et al. (1974) and Stewart et al. (1977). The tested models can be used with considerable degree of trustworthiness to estimate the productivity of corn grains in Parnaíba region. The Stewart et al. (1977) is the most recommended model for this work.
