The representation of feminine in latin comedy “The Merchant”
Keywords:
Speech, Representation of the Feminine, The MerchantAbstract
The present article seeks to discuss the representation of the feminine in Rome in the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. For this, it was necessary a brief approach on the mechanisms of male domination discussed by the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, as well as some concepts developed by the philosopher Michel Foucault - both essential for this study. We also propose in the light of the Theory of Representation to analyze the Latin comedy The Merchant of Plautus and demonstrate the intentionalities present in the aforementioned comedy.
