Abstract

This work seeks to investigate aspects of Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan tetralogy, intertwining literature and psychoanalysis. For this, it starts from the sentence of the narrator and protagonist Lenu, “the effort of finding a form”. Thinking about the process of finding a form as a singular and subjective construction of female existence, it seeks to demonstrate the value of character formation throughout the novel. Considering and respecting the boundaries between psychoanalysis and literature, the proposal is to follow the construction of the two protagonists, passing through writing as a constituent resource and language as a mark on the body. It is also intended to examine the smarginatura neologism, bringing it closer to psychoanalytic concepts that are also presented in the form of neologisms - such as lalangue, extimus and das unheimliche - approaching it, too, as an exercise in subjective edification. To support and give consistency to the research, the present work uses mainly the literary text and, in parallel, small excerpts from the work of Freud and Lacan.
