Abstract

Aiming on estimating the evapotranspiration (ETc) and crop coefficient (Kc) of hot pepper, cv. Tabasco McIlhenny, an experiment was carried out at the Universidade Federal of Ceará – UFC, Curu Valley Farm division, located in Pentecoste County, Ceara State, Brazil, from September 2003 to January 2004. Three drainage lysimeter were utilized to estimate crop evapotranspiration. The reference evapotranspiration (ETo) was estimated by the Penman-Monteith (FAO) equation. Crop coefficient was obtained by the ratio between ETc and ETo at different stages of plant development. The obtained values of Kc suggested an increase throughout plant vegetative growth and a decrease upon harvest, with Kc values of 0.96 (initial phase), 1.29 (development, flowering, and fruit production phases), and 1.24 (ripening and harvest phases).
