Section Policies
EDITORIAL POLICY — SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES SECTION
1. Preprints and Conference Papers
Contextus accepts the submission of articles previously made available as preprints, provided they are deposited in repositories recognized by the scientific community and equipped with appropriate mechanisms for preservation and transparency, such as SciELO Preprints, SSRN, OSF, or equivalent platforms.
Authors must inform, at the time of submission, the link to the preprint and declare that the manuscript has not undergone formal peer review by any other journal. The version submitted to Contextus must correspond, in essence, to the one publicly available.
In addition, the journal accepts submissions of articles presented at national or international academic events (as abstracts, extended abstracts, or full papers). It is recommended that the version submitted to Contextus incorporate the reviewers’ suggestions received during the event.
For manuscripts recommended for Fast Track from conferences, authors should consult the journal’s Fast Track policy and designated section.
2. Peer Review Process
Contextus adopts an editorial process grounded in methodological rigor, transparency, and alignment with contemporary Open Science practices.
All articles undergo a double-blind peer review. The identities of authors and reviewers remain undisclosed throughout the process, ensuring impartiality.
At the end of each annual volume, the journal publishes on its website the list of reviewers who contributed during that year, without specifying the manuscripts reviewed.
The final published version includes the name(s) of the responsible editor(s), but not reviewer information.
3. Open Data Policy
The journal encourages the sharing of data, code, and supplementary materials used in the research, in alignment with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
Authors are encouraged to deposit datasets in reliable, institutional, or thematic repositories. Shared materials should include sufficient documentation to allow replication.
Data sharing promotes transparency, reproducibility, and broader scientific impact.
4. Fees (APCs or Submission Fees)
Contextus does not charge any fees at any stage of the editorial process. Submission, review, editing, and publication are completely free of charge, reaffirming the journal’s commitment to high-quality open access with no financial barriers.
5. Research Ethics, Misconduct, Errata, and Retraction
Contextus maintains a Code of Ethics for Authors, Reviewers, and Editors designed to promote a culture of ethical, transparent, and quality-centered research, in accordance with the principles and guidelines of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), DORA (Declaration on Research Assessment), the ANPAD Manual, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), and the CSE (Council of Science Editors) of ABEC (Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors). Authors, reviewers, and editors must follow these standards to uphold the highest ethical norms in research and publishing.
5.1. Corrections (Errata)
Errors identified after publication must be reported to the Editor-in-Chief. Corrections will be evaluated and, when appropriate, published with a direct link to the original article.
5.2. Retraction
Retraction will be applied in cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism; data falsification or fabrication; unethical use of information or sources; duplicate publication; or other severe ethical violations.
Retraction notices remain linked to the original record, ensuring traceability and integrity of the scholarly record.
5.3. Reviewer Misconduct
Unacceptable behaviors include the misappropriation of ideas; disclosure of confidential information; offensive or unconstructive reviews; and undeclared conflicts of interest.
The journal follows COPE-based procedures whenever necessary.
6. Conflicts of Interest
Actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest must be disclosed by authors, reviewers, and editors.
Contextus avoids reviewer or editor assignments involving recent co-authorship; recent advisory or supervisory relationships; direct professional ties; or personal or substantial collaborative relationships.
Articles authored by members of the editorial team are subject to special procedures: they may not be evaluated by team members with any connection to the manuscript; a designated ad hoc editor must be assigned; and these procedures must be described in the edition’s editorial.
7. Similarity Check
All manuscripts approved in the preliminary screening undergo similarity detection using professional software such as Turnitin. The analysis considers not only the numerical similarity index but also the nature of the matches, ensuring scientific integrity and avoiding false positives.
8. Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools
Contextus recognizes the relevance of AI technologies and establishes clear guidelines for their ethical use.
8.1. Human Responsibility
AI cannot be listed as an author. Responsibility for the scientific content lies exclusively with humans.
8.2. Use by Authors
AI tools are permitted for auxiliary tasks such as translation, grammar revision, and text organization.
Use in substantive stages (analysis, literature review, text generation, modeling, predictive tools, etc.) must be explicitly described in the manuscript, including the tool’s name, version, and purpose.
8.3. Use by Reviewers and Editors
Permitted only for secondary activities and may not replace critical judgment. The Editor-in-Chief must be informed of any significant use of such tools.
8.4. Prohibited Conduct
The following are prohibited: embedding hidden prompts in manuscripts; relying entirely on AI for decision-making or review; using AI to manipulate or fabricate content.
9. Sex and Gender Considerations
Contextus is committed to increasing diversity and representation across its editorial board, reviewer pool, and authorship. Each year, the journal seeks to broaden gender representation among its collaborators.
Studies addressing sex- and gender-related variables must provide clear and rigorous conceptual treatment. The use of the SAGER (Sex and Gender Equity in Research) guidelines is strongly encouraged.
10. Research Ethics Committees and Integrity
Contextus strongly recommends that research involving human subjects or sensitive data receive prior approval from recognized ethics committees.
Authors must ensure informed consent when applicable; protection of confidential information; methodological rigor; accuracy in describing procedures; and proper attribution of authorship and credit.
In cases of disputes concerning authorship or ethical issues, the journal follows COPE protocols.
11. Copyright and Licensing
Contextus adopts the Open Access model and uses the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license.
Authors retain copyright of their work but grant the journal the right of first publication. Remixing, adaptation, and distribution are permitted, provided proper attribution is given.
Upon submission, authors agree to the following declaration:
"We, the authors, retain the copyright of our published article and grant Contextus the right of first publication under the Creative Commons Attribution – NonCommercial 4.0 International License, which permits sharing with appropriate attribution to the authorship and initial publication in this journal.
We acknowledge that we are authorized to enter into additional, separate agreements for non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the work (e.g., institutional repository deposit or book chapters), with proper attribution to both the authorship and initial publication in this journal.
We attest that the article is original and unpublished, has not been previously published in any Brazilian or foreign journal, in Portuguese or any other language, and is not under simultaneous consideration elsewhere.
We understand that plagiarism is not tolerated by Contextus and affirm that the article properly cites all sources of referenced works, including any prior works produced and published by the authors themselves."
12. Intellectual Property and Self-Archiving
Contextus permits and encourages the deposit of preprints; accepted versions (postprints); and the final published version (PDF).
There is no embargo period. Authors may make their work available in institutional, academic, or personal repositories.

EDITORIAL POLICY — FAST TRACK ARTICLES
1. Nature and Purpose of the Fast Track
Contextus maintains partnerships with national and international scientific events that wish to highlight outstanding papers presented in their editions. The Fast Track consists of a process through which articles selected by the event’s scientific committee are nominated and granted priority in editorial processing and pre-approval in the desk review stage, recognizing the quality previously assessed by the conference’s peer reviewers.
Fast Track does not imply automatic acceptance, but it expedites the editorial process by taking advantage of the prior evaluation conducted at the event.
2. Conditions for Submission of Fast Track Articles
Authors of papers nominated for Fast Track must follow all general guidelines of the journal, complemented by the specific requirements of this section.
2.1. Formal indication at the time of submission
In the OJS system, in the “Comments for the Editor” field, authors must indicate: that the article originates from a Fast Track nomination; the full name and edition of the event; and the track, thematic axis, or academic division in which the article was evaluated, when applicable.
2.2. Mandatory documentation
In addition to the manuscript file, authors must attach:
-
A document containing the event’s full peer reviews, including all recommendations received.
-
A description of the revisions made in response to the reviews, clearly indicating how each recommendation was incorporated or justified.
This document must be submitted in PDF format as a “Supplementary Document” in the submission system.
2.3. Revised version of the manuscript
Authors must submit a version already adjusted based on the event reviews, fully complying with the formatting and standards of Contextus.
3. Editorial Processing of Fast Track Articles
3.1. Pre-approval in Desk Review
Articles nominated for Fast Track automatically pass the initial screening, provided that: they are complete; include all mandatory documents; follow the journal’s template and formatting requirements; and do not show signs of plagiarism or misconduct.
3.2. Analysis by the Handling Editor
After the screening, the handling editor will evaluate: the quality and depth of the event’s peer reviews; the consistency of the revisions; the scientific, methodological, and editorial adequacy of the manuscript; and any need for additional evaluation.
3.3. Possible editorial pathways
Based on this analysis, the editor may:
a) Approve the article directly for the final review stage when the event’s reviews are robust and the revisions are satisfactory.
b) Forward the manuscript for a new round of peer review, using reviewers from Contextus, when: the event’s reviews show gaps; the revisions are insufficient; further theoretical or methodological refinement is needed; the topic requires additional specialists; or the editor deems that acceptance without further review would entail risks. This second round may be simplified or complete, depending on editorial judgment.
3.4. Transparency and record-keeping
All Fast Track documentation—including event reviews and justifications for editorial decisions—remains recorded in the internal process, respecting the confidentiality of peer review.
4. Ethics, Originality, and Scientific Integrity
Articles submitted via Fast Track must fully comply with the journal’s policies on: plagiarism and similarity; data protection and research ethics; conflict of interest disclosures; use of artificial intelligence; and methodological integrity.
Nomination by an event does not exempt the manuscript from these evaluations.
5. Copyright, Open Access, and Licensing
Articles are evaluated and published under the same conditions as any other journal section: Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licensing; authors retain copyright; self-archiving is permitted; no fees are charged.
6. Final Considerations
The Fast Track section reflects Contextus’ commitment to: valuing high-quality scientific work presented at academic events; reducing editorial processing time; strengthening dialogue between the academic community, journals, and conferences; and increasing the visibility of papers recognized by qualified scientific committees.
The Fast Track operates as a pathway for editorial acceleration without compromising rigor, quality, or integrity, upholding the academic excellence that characterizes Contextus – Contemporary Journal of Economics and Management.
