the fiction of José Saramago and the meeting with the history by Georges Duby

Abstract

Having declared that without Georges Duby and without the “Nouvelle Histoire” he would not have written central novels in his romanesque work, the meeting of the portuguese writer José Saramago with the thought and the writing of this historiography happened, however, through a little facet known by the Nobel Literature Prize of 1998, the one of translator. It was through this activity that, in the late 1970s, José Saramago established his first contacts with the historiographic making that marked him profoundly. This text seeks to give read some elements of this encounter, some ways as the plot of the fiction of José Saramago crossed with the warp of the story according to Georges Duby.
