GEOTURISTIC POTENTIAL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF PEDRO II, PIAUÍ, BRAZIL

This work has the general objective of carrying out a discussion about the geotourism potential of the municipality of Pedro II, highlighting its importance for the development of the northern region of Piauí. As a specific objective, it was defined to characterize the current geotourist attraction points of this municipality. The methodology corresponded to the survey of theoretical references; direct observations of places that have geotouristic relevance, in terms of geological-geomorphological aspects; and organization of maps of its location, geology and elaboration of a geotourism itinerary using geoprocessing and photographic records. The research becomes important for the discussion about geotourism in this region, considering that it integrates with activities potentially focused on local development. The main results of this work demonstrate that the municipality of Pedro II is able to develop geotourism activity by integrating itself with other regional attractions, based on the identification of Geomorphosites with high geological-geomorphological potential as a basis not only for economic, but also educational and cultural development
