RECONFIGURATION OF THE LANDSCAPE IN THE AMAZONIAN SAVANNAS

Abstract

The occupation process of the savannahs in Roraima which is reflected in an outstanding way in the modification of its landscapes. This study is aimed at analyzing the expansion of agricultural activities and the changes to the landscapes of the savannas in the municipality of Boa Vista (RR), known by the local name “Lavrado”, between the years 2000 and 2014. To reach the objectives, the methodology of Environmental Analysis by Geoprocessing, was adopted, with diagnostic procedures such as inventories, signatures, and environmental assessments. The results indicated that intensification of the use and modification of land cover, occurring in the production of grains (soybean), is occurring.  The historical process of occupation and intensification of use occurred as a result of the actions of the State, like the measures of the state government, which guide its strategies in the strengthening of agriculture and livestock. In this scenario, the conversion of the savannas became strategic to the productive process, like that which occurred in the Cerrado biome of Central Brazil, mainly during the 1970s.

Atualmente é geógrafa - Secretaria de Estado do Planejamento e Desenvolvimento e professora da Universidade Estadual de Roraima, onde atua na pesquisa e no ensino de graduação, em disciplinas relacionadas à temáticas físico-naturais.

    Doutor (2008) em Geografia pela Universidade de São Paulo, e com pós-doutorado pela Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Espanha. Professor Associado da Universidade Federal de Goiás desde 1997, onde atua na pesquisa e no ensino de graduação e pós-graduação, em disciplinas e temas relacionados à cartografia geográfica, com ênfase em cartografia temática e cartografia do turismo. Ex-Vice Diretor do Instituto de Estudos Socioambientais (IESA) da UFG, foi também Coordenador do Curso de Graduação em Geografia no Campus Jataí da UFG (1997-1998) e no IESA (2002-2004); Coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia do IESA (2012-2014); Assessor da Pró-Reitoria de Graduação da UFG, no cargo de Coordenador das Licenciaturas (2008-2010), Coordenador Institucional do PIBID - Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência (2009-2012), Coordenador do PROLICEN - Programa de Bolsas de Iniciação Científica para as Licenciaturas (2008-2010). Atualmente é membro eleito do Conselho Deliberativo da Fundação de Apoio à Pesquisa da UFG (FUNAPE) e Diretor do IESA.
