COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES DURING THE COLONIAL PERIOD IN GOIÁS - BRAZIL

Abstract

In Goiás, since the colonial period, commercial activities have always been present and even as subsidiary activities contributed to the economic dynamics of the Captaincy. In this article, of historical and geographical nature, we seek to discuss these activities in the context of colonial economics.  The research methodology was based on the bibliographical survey, on the historical geographic formation of Goiás and on the documental research with the bases of the Historical Geographical Institute of Goiás (IHGG) and the Historical Archive Ultramarinho de Lisboa (AHU). The result of the investigation showed that the commercial activities based, mainly, on the importation, were developed thanks to surplus of capital generated by the gold.

    Doutora em Geografia pela Universidade Federal de Goiás. Atuou, entre 2006 a 2011, nos níveis fundamental e médio de ensino no Município de Goiânia. Atualmente é professora da Universidade Estadual de Goiás, editora da revista Élisée e desenvolve pesquisas na área de geografia regional e econômica.
