SANITARY, SOCIAL, AND METEOROLOGICAL ASPECTS AND NATURAL DISASTERS IN THE NORTHEASTERN REGION OF BRAZIL

Abstract

Objetiva-se, neste estudo, caracterizar à ocorrência dos desastres naturais das mesorregiões do Nordeste do Brasil, a partir dos aspectos meteorológicos e sociosanitários, considerando o período de 1991 a 2013. Utilizou-se a metodologia Grade of Membership, fundamentada na teoria de conjuntos nebulosos, que permite classificar as mesorregiões em múltiplos conjuntos com distintos atributos. A tipologia delineou três perfis extremos: o predominante extremo 1 agregou mesorregiões com moderada ocorrência de seca e enxurrada, condições favoráveis ao excesso de precipitação, melhores condições sanitárias e maior urbanização; o predominante extremo 2 tem como características elevados registros de secas e enxurradas, condições favoráveis ao déficit de precipitação, intermediárias condições sanitárias e moderada urbanização; e o perfil predominante extremo 3 apresentou mesorregiões com elevados registros de inundações, condições favoráveis ao excesso de precipitação, mais baixas condições sanitárias e menor urbanização.

    Doctor (2001) in Demography by the Center for Regional Development and Planning of the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG. Full Professor of the Department of Atmospheric and Climatic Sciences of UFRN. Permanent member of the Graduation Program in Climatic Sciences of UFRN. She has experience in the area of Demography, with an emphasis on demographic components, working mainly on the following topics: health, social indicators, assessment of demographic data sources, population and climate.

    Phd in Public Health for the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (2004). Currently, she is an adjunct professor at the Department of Statistics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Teacher of the Post-graduation Program in Climatic Sciences (Mestrado e Doutorado). He has experience in the area of Probability and Statistics, with an emphasis on Analysis of Longitudinal Data and Categorized Data, Models of Mixed Effects (Linear and Non-Linear) working mainly on the following topics: epidemiology, public health and climate and health modeling.
