MILITIA FORM AND ITS PARADIGMS IN THE SPACE-TIME OF THE URBAN IN THE METROPOLIS OF RIO DE JANEIRO

Abstract

The article presents five hypotheses regarding our evaluation of the current emergence of the geographical space of the militia form. To construct this hypothesis, the Metropolitan West of Rio de Janeiro (MWRJ) has been selected as the preferred locus for the rise of this social form. In an exercise of regionalization, we connect the terms of this socio-spatial presence within the scope of the current center-periphery relationships transcribed in the Brazilian urban network. Presenting the hypotheses and weaving them from cartographic data, we bring elements to the understanding of the negative character of the modernization entangled in this fragment of the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro in recent decades.

  • Marcio Rufino Silva, Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica (RJ), Brazil

    PhD in Human Geography (2013) from the University of São Paulo. Adjunct Professor at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), working with the Department of Geography (DGG), linked to the Institute of Geosciences (IGEO) of that university. Since May 2017, he has been a member of the Postgraduate Program in Geography (PPGGEO) at UFRRJ, as a Permanent Researcher and, from July 2019 to July 2021, he was the coordinator of the program. He coordinates the group "Towards a Critique of the Political Economy of Space", whose scope of research and activities is regularly developed with UFRRJ students. He is also a member of the "Study and Research Group in Humanities: Art, Philosophy, History and Education", working, more specifically, with the research line "Philosophy, Work and Human Formation". Finally, since 2019, he has been a member of the "Research Group on Transformation of Use, Occupation and Urban and Regional Development" (GEDUR), also based at UFRRJ, linked to the area of ​​Urban and Regional Planning. He was Coordinator of the Geography Subproject of the 2018-2019 Pedagogical Residency, carried out in conjunction with two public schools located in Seropédica (RJ). And, finally, he participates in the research group "Urban Geography: everyday life and the urban", whose main activities consist of reading and discussing texts from the work of Karl Marx, Henri Lefebvre and the Situationist International, including a joint publication entitled "The Future of Work", published in 2006, and other collections published later. In 2016, he published the book "Urban Operation and Social Struggles: a history of property in Butantã and the reversion of the Consorciated Urban Operation Vila Sônia", by Editora Annablume. He has experience in the area of ​​Human Geography, with an emphasis on Urban Geography, working mainly on the following themes: critical urbanization, territories and territorialities, urban borders, daily life and everyday life, metropolization, urban planning and critique of political economy.
