Cordial racism racial discrimination manifestation by brazilian way – the public and private domains

Abstract

In Brazil, the African presence passes for many social personifications: from slave (rude, sharp, creole, ingenuous, liberated) to the ‘mulatto’ and black people in contrast and confront with the Indian and the blank, that in playful, sexual, religious, and political relations appears like physical, psychological and cultural diferences. However, the definition polarized about white and black people in a society that is defined by hundreds of different colors becomes impracticable, still if been added the cultural and historical questions, as the myth of the racial democracy and the ideal of bleaching. Like this, in the place of the racism declared develops in Brazil a form of discrimination against the not white, that is characterized by a superficial politeness that camouflages attitudes and discriminatory behaviors, expressing in same level of personal relationships through informal attitudes. It is the typically Brazilian, polite racism, that manifests in private relations and are camouflaged in supposed public tolerance.
