Urinary incontinence in senior women: determinants, consequences and diagnoses of nursing

Abstract

This systematic review study had as objective to identify determinants, consequences and nursing diagnosis in elderly women with urinary incontinence. Considering the determinants, it was identified: mobility restriction, multiple childbirths, estrogen deficiency, neurological alterations, coexistence sickness, urinary infection, obesity, intestinal constipation, the excessive use of caffeine, use of multiple medicines, tabagism, and antecedents of gynecological surgery and anatomical and functional alterations of growing old. As for the consequences, were verified: social isolation, decrease of the self esteem, depression, interference in the sexual life, negative perception of the health condition, shame, psychological and emotional problems, sleeping alterations, institutionalization and damage in life quality. The identified Nursing Diagnosis were: sleeping problems, Anxiety, Health Maintenance problems, Cognition problems, Constipation, Depression, Urinary infection, Social isolation, Fear, Restricted mobility, socialization problems, Complex use of medication. We so conclude that urinary incontinence in older women involves loss in quality of life.
