This case report study aims to describe the experience of using nursing taxonomies in association to Orem´s theory during nursing care of a high risk pregnant. The study was developed in a clinical unit at a reference maternity in Fortaleza, in 2009. We used interview techniques, physical examination, observation and also registered information through a structured instrument, addressing constraining factors, therapeutic demands, individual skills and capacities to fulfill these demands, and self-care deficits. The deficits corresponded to six main nursing diagnoses: Acute pain, Anxiety, Risk of activity intolerance, liveliness to increase self care, risk of disturbed dyad mother/fetus and comfort interference. The use of the nursing process evolved from a fully compensatory system to an education-support system, demonstrating the applicability of the nursing systematization based in Orem´s theory in the scenery in which the study was developed.Publicado
