Temperature of germination, desiccation sensitivity and storage of jackfruit seeds
Keywords:
Artocarpus integrifolia L. Physiology. Drying.Abstract
To evaluate the effect of temperature in germination and the behavior germination of jackfruit seeds related to desiccation and storage, freshly seeds (56% HR – sample1) and dried seeds in the shade in ambient temperature were used. They stayed there for 7 days until the attainment of 29% of humidity (sample 2).The seeds of both samples were wrapped in sheets of paper, involved in polyethylene bags and stored in cold chamber (10 °C, 40% HR). Before the storage and during the 30 and 60 days of storage, seeds were evaluated for germination test in trays with sand substratum, in BOD incubator at 25 °C and 35 °C. It was observed that the temperature of 25 °C is appropriate for the germination of jackfruit seeds. These seeds don’t tolerate desiccation at 29% humidity, their germination is gradually reduced during the storage, and it is null during the 60 days.
