Correlation between cooking time and production characters in bean at two environments

            Abstract

            This study aimed to verify the existence of correlation between the grain yield and time for cooking characteristics in grains of beans grown in two environments. The simultaneous selection of many characters can be costly due to the presence of the interaction between genotype and environment. To minimize this difficulty, the breeders can make use of indirect selection for one or more specific characters. There were two trials to test for yield of beans and cooking time in the municipality of Capinzal in Lages, in the 2007/08. The results showed that the indirect selection between the grain yield and cooking time characters should not be the simultaneous  aim for the same breeding program.
