Abstract

The use of remotely piloted aircraft in spraying and pesticide application operations in the conilon coffee crop has grown significantly. Planting conilon coffee densely is an alternative for increasing productivity and phytosanitary control in this planting condition has been little investigated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the deposition and residues of insecticides sprayed on dense conilon coffee plantations, using ARP at different application rates in the canopy layers. The spraying took place on conilon coffee plantations planted on a 1.5 m x 0.5 m spacing system. A randomized block design was used and the treatments were divided into plots. Water-sensitive labels and artificial targets were used to estimate coverage, density, droplet deposition and volumetric median diameter, while residual deposition was estimated using chromatography. There was a significant increase of more than 2.2 times in droplet coverage between the rates of 5 and 15 L ha-1 and an increase in droplet deposition at the rate of 5 L ha-1 in the upper layer (10.50 droplets cm-2) and deposition at the rate of 15 L ha-1 (18.23 droplets cm-2). The average residual deposition for the 10 L ha-1 and 15 L ha-1 rates is 0.670 mg kg-1, about three times higher than the residual deposition observed at the 5 L ha-1 rate. Application rates of between 10 and 15 L ha-1 are indicated for application to dense conilon coffee
