Ontology. Categorical analysis. Art works.Abstract
The subject of the investigation is the analysis of the ontological commitments of the existence and the concept of works of art, based on the writings of the contemporary philosopher Amie Thomasson. The author defends that the central question in ontology of art is: what sort of entity is a work of art? She comes to the conclusion that traditional categories of metaphysics, which divide entities between real/temporal/variable and ideal/eternal/invariable, cannot reach arts, because it bears characteristics of both sides of the dichotomy. Therefore, it is necessary to create new categories that include characters of several categories of traditional metaphysics, like “physical objects”, “imaginary entities”, “abstract types”, “concrete individuals”, among others, without being reduced to any of them.Downloads
