Arendt and the critique of romanticism in Rahel Varnhagen's biography

This paper aims to examine the criticism Arendt makes to the Romanticism in her biography of Rahel Varnhagen, written in the early thirties. The central hypothesis is that this criticism is a relevant element in the ulterior development of Arendt’s political thought. Besides that, this paper tries to demonstrate that there is an influence of Schmitt’s wok Political Romanticism on Arendt’s conception of Romanticism.Downloads
