Abstract

In the present paper, madness is considered the very subject which connects the main issues of the Phaedrus: love and rhetoric. Besides, it aims to point out that the dialogue suggests the presence of an irrational basis on the very core of logos, such that it could be even thought as a rhetorical play by means of which Plato intends to contrast the ways rhetorician/sophist and philosopher deals with that madness which is essential to rationality.
