Este artigo procura analisar alguns autores e temas que influenciaram Martin Heidegger na formulação das indicações formais (formale Anzeige). Selecionamos aqueles cuja influência nos parece mais esclarecedora para o entendimento das indicações formais enquanto método: as noções medievais de actus signatus e actus exercitus, as “expressões essencialmente ocasionais”, de Husserl e a teoria da “comunicação indireta”, de Kierkegaard.
