From the freedom of subjects in Hobbes to the freedom of citizens in Rousseau

A intenção é examinar a concepção de Hobbes de que a liberdade dos súditos reside no silêncio das leis civis, que expressam a vontade do soberano, contrapondo-a à concepção de Rousseau de que a liberdade dos cidadãos provém da submissão às leis civis, que expressam a vontade geral do corpo político. Pretende-se com isso ressaltar as diferenças entre essas duas maneiras de pensar a relação entre lei e liberdade, indicando como elas estão no fundamento de duas maneiras distintas de pensar a liberdade na contemporaneidade: a concepção liberal e a concepção republicana.
