Luc Ferry and Gianni Vattimo: two philosophical perspectives on the religious phenomenon In contemporaneity

Abstract

The article discusses the religious phenomenon in its diffuse sense in contemporary society, taking into account sociocultural, historical and, about everything, philosophical elements. This phenomenon has been interpreted before the paradox of secularized society and the constant presence of religion beyond the private sphere. The interpreters here listed in the discussion belong to the continental tradition: Luc Ferry and Gianni Vattimo. The first highlights the idea of a ‘transcendence in immanence’ which is linked to the proposal of a ‘secular humanism’. In the second, the propositional reading of the religious phenomenon implies the critique of institutional dogmas in favor of the historicity of the human condition and the practice of charity.
