Abstract

Over the last decades, it is possible to observe a growing interest in the contributions of Aristotelian moral and political thought to the economic phenomenon. Some researchers tried to demonstrate that the modern price theories originate from the corpus aristotelicum. In this line of investigation, Aristotle has already been seen as the father of labor theory of value (Gordon, 1964); the demand-based theory of value (Soudek, 1952); and neither (Meikle, 1995). Other researchers claim to find theoretical insights in Aristotle that help to reshape our own economic vision (Sen, 1987). This article is part of both efforts. I present the following thesis: in Aristotle, prices are linked to the reciprocity and friendship of the political community. Modern economic science ignores this foundation and, as a result, it confuses the means with the ends of exchange. Thus, the article seeks to facilitate the revival of justice talk in the economic debate.
