With great satisfaction, we present Volume 57, Number 2, of the journal Arquivos de Ciências do Mar. This edition gathers a diverse and relevant set of studies that expand our knowledge of aquatic ecosystems and their interactions with natural and anthropogenic factors.
The original articles in this issue include studies on the use of ghost crabs as indicators of anthropogenic impact on urban beaches, the seahorse trade in Ceará, and the population analysis of Hippocampus reidi in Northeastern estuaries. Other topics covered include a methodological proposal to verify the D2 BWM standard (IMO, 2004) in the presence of toxigenic Vibrio cholerae, the sex ratio and seasonal abundance of seabob shrimp (Xiphopenaeus kroyeri), and the use of benthic foraminifera as stress indicators in coral reefs at the Pedra da Risca do Meio Marine State Park.
In the scientific reviews section, we highlight the impacts of artificial beach nourishment on water quality and marine biota, as well as microbiological technologies applied to sustainable aquaculture, contributing to the advancement of management practices.
The scientific notes include studies on the length-weight relationship of 55 fish species caught using fixed arrowhead traps in Pernambuco, the acute toxicity of ammonia to the soft coral Xenia umbellata, and a new record of the anemone Calliactis tricolor for the Northeastern coast of Brazil. We also present preliminary results on the biological adaptability of the dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) and observations on Guiana dolphin (Sotalia guianensis) behaviors in response to swimmers and boats.

Retrospective 2016-2024 and Farewell from the Editor-in-Chief
Over the past eight years the journal Arquivos de Ciências do Mar has expanded its relevance as a scientific dissemination platform in oceanography, marine ecology, and coastal studies. From 2016 to 2024, we implemented changes to enhance the journal’s reach and impact, such as the transition to a digital format that facilitated global dissemination of knowledge.
During this period, we published 244 articles covering topics such as marine conservation, climate change, and coastal resource management. The growing number of submissions reflects the trust of the scientific community in our work, while international collaborations further enriched our content. The journal achieved greater visibility and established itself as a reference in the field, thanks to the joint efforts of the editorial team, authors, reviewers, and readers. This collective effort strengthened Arquivos de Ciências do Mar's role in promoting scientific knowledge.
As I conclude my journey as Editor-in-Chief, I express my gratitude to all who contributed to this trajectory. This period brought challenges, growth, and progress that reinforced the journal’s commitment to quality science. I wish Arquivos de Ciências do Mar continued success under new leadership, contributing to research and conservation of marine ecosystems.
