Abstract

The lack of information regarding the mollusk fauna in Brazilian Northeast, especially in the Rio Grande do Norte State justifies the creation of a scientific malacological collection for the region. The UFERSA’s Mollusk Collection was established in 2009 incorporating Professor Henry Ramos Matthews’ private collection and dredged material by scientific and fishing vessels and fossils from the Potiguar basin, previously deposited in the institution. Recent material, collected between 2010 and 2012 by the project “Levantamento da Malacofauna do Oeste Potiguar” is also deposited in the collection. Mass cataloging of samples was started only in 2014. Currently, the collection includes 182 lots cataloged and hundreds yet to be cataloged.
