Abstract

In spite of the great ecological and fisheries importance of the Elasmobranchs (sharks and rays), information on these animals off Sergipe State are insufficient. With the objective of knowing the species of sharks and rays that occur in the coast of Sergipe, since August, 2000 fishing trips have been performed in the Mosqueiro Beach and around the Aracaju fishing harbor. A total of 27 Elasmobranch species were registered, out of which 20 sharks and 7 rays, belonging to 13 families and 15 genera, with a not iceable presence of typical species of the Northeastern fauna.
