Values priorities and ambivalent sexism: the hostile and benevolent sexism predictions based on human values

Abstract

The ambivalent sexism is concerned with a group of stereotypes about the cognitive, affective and attitudinal esteem as for the appropriate position in the society pointed towards the citizens according to their sexes. This construct purpose the women prejudice esteem, knowing as the sexism hostile and benevolent. In front of this serious social problem, the research looks for an explanation of its stability in social relations, so, the human values have been a construct of the best answer that propose to this social phenomenon. 795 citizens, man and woman, between 13 and 63 years old, answered the bivalent sexism inventory and human values. It was observed that the personal in he human values standard connected systematically with the sexism hostile and benevolent, the social standard with the benign. Values, which aim at an individualism, are able to foment the subtle and traditional prejudice, otherwise a social orientation cans accentuate the discrimination in a subtle way.
