Adolescence and quality of life in São Paulo (Brazil)

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of life of High School adolescents in the city of São Paulo, seeking assistance for public and private policies and quality of life improvement for this population. Method. In order to evaluate a representative group of 2,434 High School students in the city of São Paulo, a questionnaire for economic evaluation (ABEP, 2007) and the quality of life questionnaire WHOQOL-100 were used. Results. It was noted that a number of aspects influence this population’s quality of life. Male students declared a higher quality of life than female students. Similarly, younger adolescents tended to report better quality of life compared to older ones. Representatives of higher socioeconomic classes also presented better quality of life. Conclusions. These results can contribute to the development of public and private policies aiming to improve the quality of life of this population.
