Resumo

The search for knowledge may allow maturity in different levels, and the learning in the nursing area go through its ways by scientific knowledge and technical skills to improve the professional growth. We aimed with this research to analyze in a critical and reflexive way the teaching – learning of under graduate Nursing students in a public university, during such practice the subject nursing in the Care Process I. We carried out this study in the Neonatal Unit of a public maternity hospital, in Fortaleza from May to June, 2005. Forty students were distributed in seven groups into units, to practice the nursing care to newborn (NB). We used the participant’s observation to evaluate the activities focusing on the acquired knowledge. The findings made evident that the relationship nurse/student is oriented to the development of the student; the theory is allied to the practice, as well as the student’s insecurity when taking care of open ways for learning.
