Abstract

Changes in the health panorama have pointed to the need for reorganization in the health services. As a strategy of the Brazilian Health System (SUS), the municipalization of health services has called for a new technological organization in the health setting, thus requiring a new professional background to face this situation. This paper aims at an in-depth examination of the pedagogical features of GERUS Project bases on the author’s experience as a monitor along the planning and teaching processes. The courses’ pedagogical methodology, the knowledge required for the local health management, and the students’ follow-up and evaluation stages are herein discussed. The pedagogical conception of the GERUS Project is based on rather unconventional educational principles that require new teaching attitudes and substantial modifications of both teaching learning concepts.
