On the initiation into philosophy: the Foucauldian experience

Is the philosophical practice this activity that modifies the very body of the agent previously implicated in a movement in which he recognized himself as a mere spectator? Could truth be a certain “experience” of shifting perspective that allows me to discover that my way of life is susceptible to conversion? The fact that Socrates claimed to know nothing gives us clues about the nature of what his philosophy understood as knowledge: what matters are the effects that truth causes in the way one lives. If truth is no longer in words, Socratic thought perhaps has less to do with the desire for truth than with the truth of desire. In this article, we attempt to explore this premise through the intersection of three contemporary French authors: Gilles Deleuze, Michel Foucault, and Jacques Rancière. In their critiques, notes, and contributions, we trace ways to understand what constitutes a life truly committed to philosophy and, moreover, how it can be regarded as legitimate in the spaces it occupies.
