Abstract

The need to balance the preservation of coastal zones, notwithstanding the promotion of their development, is an emerging understanding. The use of Remote Sensing has been consolidated in the monitoring of conditions and changes in coastal areas. Thus, the behavior of the vegetation activity of an estuarine area and its immediate surroundings was evaluated through the multitemporal analysis of Landsat images between the years 2000 to 2020 based on three vegetation indices: NDVI, SAVI and IAF. It is concluded that the flora underwent significant changes in terms of distribution, density and health in two decades. The complementarity in the responses observed by the Indexes and the field data proved to be an efficient tool for assessing the conditions of the flora in the face of the main environmental impacts in the area, in order to be applied in local coastal planning and management.
