INCOME INEQUALITY, PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT AND INCOME TRANSFERS IN CONTEMPORARY BRAZIL

Abstract

The action of the State, through public job mobilization and transfers of income, constituted an important element to understand the inequality of income in Brazil. At the same time recent researches verify the end of the trajectory of the inequality reduction of income registered in the 2000s, we realized the rise of fiscal austerity policies which objectify to dehydrate the acting fields of the State. Mapping and analysis of public employment (Federal, State, and Municipality) and of the Direct Income Transfers (Rural Retirement, Benefit of Continuing Provision and Bolsa Família Program) help in the comprehension of the decisive actions of the State for the income generation and distribution.

    Doutor em Geografia pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (2005), com Pós-Doutorado na UFC (CE). Professor Associado da Universidade Federal de Goiás e integra o corpo docente do programa de pesquisa e pós-graduação em geografia (doutorado e mestrado). É Editor do Boletim Goiano de Geografia e integra o Conselho Editorial da revista Mercartor, da Revista da ANPEGE e do Boletim Campineiro de Geografia. Tem publicado regularmente artigos sobre a problemática urbano e regional em periódicos especializados na área de geografia, além de livros sobre geografia urbana e geografia de Goiás. É Coordenador da Rede Goiana de Pesquisa em Desenvolvimento Regional e Análise da Informação Geográfica. Atualmente desenvolve pesquisa financiada pelo CNPq sobre os impactos das transferências de renda (Bolsa Família, Aposentadoria Rural e Benefício de Prestação Continuada) na economia dos municípios brasileiros. Bolsista de Produtividade do CNPq, Nível 1D.
