Factors associated with the quality of life of people with lung cancer

Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the factors associated with health-related quality of life among people with lung cancer undergoing oncological treatment. Methods: a cross-sectional study conducted with 74 patients at a referral oncology hospital. Quality of life was assessed using a validated instrument composed of functional and symptom scales. Descriptive analyses, group comparison tests, correlation analyses, and multiple linear regression were performed to identify associated factors. Results: the mean quality of life score was 58.08 points. Differences were observed according to sex, with higher scores among men. Associations were found with the presence of comorbidities and a history of COVID-19, as well as a positive correlation with age and a negative correlation with the number of chemotherapy sessions. The multivariate analysis was statistically significant, highlighting self-rated health as the variable with the greatest magnitude of association. Conclusion: the quality of life of patients with lung cancer is associated with clinical and subjective factors, particularly self-rated health. Contributions to practice: the findings support nursing practice in the continuous assessment of quality of life, guiding interventions focused on clinical, functional, and psychosocial dimensions.
