Abstract

Objective: to validate the content of the nursing diagnosis “Deficient Knowledge” in chronic kidney patients under hemodialysis. Methods: content validation based on advanced diagnostic validation methods, developed in two stages: conceptual fitness of the diagnosis and content validation by specialists. The participants were 26 nurses with experience in nephrology and/or nursing diagnoses. They were selected using a snowball sampling technique. The experts evaluated the diagnostic components using a five-point Likert scale. Data was analyzed using the content validity index. Results: the diagnostic components reached an index of 0.80 or more, indicating appropriate fitness. The defining features with the highest level of agreement were “Imprecise statements about a topic” and “Inadequate behavior”. Conclusion: the diagnosis showed sufficient content validity for people with chronic kidney disease under hemodialysis. Contributions for practice: further fine-tuning the diagnostic components can increase the precision of the diagnosis and support the planning of nursing interventions targeted at this population.
