Abstract

A historic report of how and when environmental studies lead to the establishment of standard methods developed to monitor recreational marine waters are incorporated in this Review. The outcome of a number of research works is also reported, based on data collected over 30-year period on the study and survery of the beaches along Fortaleza county, Brazil.
