Abstract

The presence of the gempylids Gempylus serpens Cuvier, 1829, Lepidocybium flavobrunneum (Smith, 1849) and Ruvettus pretiosus Cocco, 1829 has been reported for the first time in inshore waters of Bahia State, northeastern of Brazil, on the geographic positions 1º30’00’’S - 36º00’00’’W and 16º30’27”S - 37º30”08”W. Several aspects of morphological variation not yet known for G. serpens and the first record of parasitism by the copepod Pennella sp. on L. flavobrunneum are presented.
