O Fantástico como Denúncia do Real
Uma Abordagem no Cordel nordestino
Abstract
Fantastic is characterized by the insertion in the diegetic world of something inexplicable and extraordinary that disturbs the stability of a familiar, daily and credible context, an aspect that dissociates it from other similar genres, such as the Wonderful, in which the entrance of the supernatural occurs without this disturbance. Based on this premise, this work analyzes how Fantastic manifests itself in Northeastern cordel literature, with an emphasis on moral reflection and on denunciation of issues that directly affect the economically less favored class. To discuss the specifics of Fantastic, including its distinction from Wonderful, we used theoretical reflections by authors such as Tzvetan Todorov and Irlemar Chiampi. Among the string books analyzed throughout the text are The history of Roberto of the Devil (Leandro Gomes de Barros), The girl who beat her mother and became a dog (Rodolfo Coelho Cavalcante), The man who spoke to the Devil in Juazeiro (João Cristo Rei) and The protestant pastor who became a goat (Antônio Araújo de Lucena).
