Editorial Policy and Ethical Considerations

Rev Rene publishes manuscripts in Portuguese, English, and Spanish by researchers from the field of Nursing and related disciplines, provided that they contribute to the practice and discipline of Nursing.

Submission to Rev Rene implies that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts with similarities to previously published articles, even in parts of the text, figures, or tables, will be excluded from the evaluation process at any stage.

Rev Rene adopts the continuous publication process (rolling pass).

Data protection

When submitting a manuscript to Rev Rene, your name, e-mail address, affiliation, and other personal contact details will be used for regular production and publishing purposes. Rev Rene recognizes the importance of protecting users' personal information and seeks to maintain the security, integrity, and privacy of personal data collected and processed.

Preprint

Rev Rene will accept manuscripts from preprint repositories (https://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo) for the peer review process and supports open science policy by depositing data in national repositories (Open Data).

Open Access

This journal offers immediate Open Access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge available to the public free of charge provides greater global democratization of knowledge. Therefore, manuscript files can be downloaded at no charge.

Archiving

Rev Rene uses the LOCKSS system. The LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system ensures secure and permanent journal cache archiving and is supported by OJS.

Data citation

Rev Rene encourages authors to make available, reuse and/or cite datasets related to the submitted publication in data repositories. It is recommended that datasets be cited in the text and included in the list of references.

Submission process

Manuscripts must be submitted through the electronic system (OJS) in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. After approval in the pre-analysis carried out by the Chief Editor, the manuscript will be evaluated by the journal's editorial staff, who will verify the adherence to the guidelines available in the instructions to authors section (http://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/about/submissions). If the manuscript returns more than three times to adapt to the journal's guidelines, it will be archived.

Ethics Policy for Scientific Publications, Good Practices Conduct and Combating Improper Procedures in Publications

Rev Rene aims to comply with good practices regarding ethical conduct consistent with scientific journal publishing, based on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) code of conduct. Preventing and combating malpractice, any form of unethical behavior, and plagiarism in any instance are also crucial responsibilities of the editor and the editorial team. Authors who submit articles to Rev Rene declare that their content is original and guarantee that the work has not been published and is not under review/evaluation in any other journal.

In addition, Rev Rene is committed to ethics and quality in publication. We support standards of ethical behavior expected of all parties involved in publishing in our journal: the author, the journal editor, the reviewers, the associate editors and other members of the journal. We do not tolerate plagiarism or any other unethical behavior.

Editors' Duties:

Publication decision: The journal editor is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The editor is guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and in strict adherence to legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editor may consult the editorial board or contributors in making decisions.

Fair Rules: The editor shall evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content, without distinction of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or the political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality: The editor and any editorial staff shall not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the author himself, reviewers, potential collaborators, other editorial advisors, and the editor, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: The editor should not use unpublished information in his/her own research without the author's express written consent. The editor should refrain from evaluating manuscripts in which he/she has any conflicts of interest resulting from competitive or collaborative relationships or any other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) institutions that are linked/connected to the articles.

Participation and cooperation in research: The editor should take reasonable response measures when ethical complaints have been filed regarding a submitted manuscript or published article.

Duties of Reviewers:

Contribution to Editorial Decision: Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the article.

Timeliness: Any selected reviewer who does not feel qualified to evaluate the research reported in a manuscript or knows that immediate review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.

Confidentiality: All manuscripts received for evaluation should be treated as confidential documents. They should not be shown or discussed with others.

Objectivity standards: Comments should be conducted objectively and reviewers should express their opinions clearly with supporting arguments.

Source acknowledgement: Peer reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. The reviewer should also bring to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript in question and any other published document of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Inside information or ideas obtained through peer review should be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have any conflicts of interest resulting from competitive or collaborative relationships or any other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) institutions that are linked/connected to the articles.

Authors' Duties:

Reporting Standards: Authors of original research reports should provide an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective analysis of its significance. Underlying data must be presented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their works are wholly original, and if authors have used the work and/or words of other authors these must have been properly cited or quoted. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

Multiple, redundant or competing publications: An author should generally not publish manuscripts that essentially describe the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously and/or publishing the same article in different journals constitutes unethical publication behavior and is unacceptable.

Acknowledgement of Sources: Proper acknowledgement of the work of others must be done at all times. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the work reported. Information obtained privately, as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with others, should not be used or reported without the explicit written permission of the source. Information obtained in the course of confidential services, such as refereed manuscripts or grant applications, should not be used without the explicit, written permission of the author of the work involved in those services.

Authorship of the Article: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Others who participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should also be recognized or listed as contributors. The author must ensure that all appropriate and no inappropriate coauthors are included in the article, and that all coauthors have seen and approved the final version of the document and agreed to its submission for publication.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors must disclose in their manuscripts any financial or substantive/material conflicts of interest that could lead to influence the results or interpretations in their manuscripts. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, it is the author's obligation to immediately notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the article.

Publisher's Duties

We are committed to ensuring that obtaining advertising monies, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. Our articles are reviewed to ensure the quality of scientific publications and we also use iThenticate software for locating similar texts and identifying plagiarism and self-plagiarism. Rev Rene warns that copying a study or part of it, from another author or even self publication, constitutes unacceptable fraud and dishonesty. Rev Rene follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduc and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors Committee on Publication Ethics.
