Resumo

The aim of this research was to identify the achievements and challenges of the process of humanization in Basic Care Units of the Family (BCUF) in Campina Grande. It was a qualitative study accomplished with 36 health professionals and 74 users enrolled in the programs developed in 28 BCUF. Two questionnaires were used based on parameters of the National Policy of Humanization (NPH), one of them was made specifi cally for professionals and the other one for common users. The collected data were patterned and allocated in thematic categories. The results indicate that some professionals are aware of the NPH and have tried to improve it. The minority of users show dissatisfaction with the delay in attendance and the diffi culties in communication. It was concluded that nurses and doctors are worried because they have not shown suffi cient resources to the welcoming of specifi c host, but they practice the reception within the limitations, therefore, the theoretical knowledge on NPH is still not completely incorporated.
