The nurse’s evaluation and intervention in the control of post-surgical pain

Resumo

The present study aims at investigating how nurse deals with the problem of post-surgical pain. It is an exploratory and descriptive research of which data collection was developed in a public hospital in Fortaleza through systematic observation and a questionnaire. Sample was constituted of 19 nurses from the surgical office from February to April 2001. The outcome indicated that there was incoherence of subjects between speech and practice, for when questioned about their professional behavior, they informed that they evaluated and intervened appropriately together with the painful patient.
