Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES FOR PUBLICATION AT REVISTA CIÊNCIA AGRONÔMICA, ISSN 0045-6888 (impress) e 1806-6690 (online)

  1. Política Editorial

The purpose of the REVISTA CIÊNCIA AGRONÔMICA, published by the Centro de Ciências Agrárias of the Universidade Federal do Ceará, is to publish technical-scientific articles and study cases (original projects) that are not submitted to other journals, involving new researches and technologies in fields related to Agrarian Sciences. Articles concerning routine analysis, preliminary studies, technical notes and those which merely report laboratorial analysis employing traditional methodology will not be accepted for publication. The Journal of Agronomical Science also has the mission to promote the exchange of experience in the referred fields.

It is addressed to professors, scientists, students and others interested in the fields of Agrarian Sciences, Animal Sciences, Fishing, Food Production and Natural Resources.

Articles submitted to publication will be sent at least to two ad hoc reviewers for evaluations. The decision of publication lies with the editors and it is based on the recommendation of the Editorial Committee and the ad hoc reviewers.

Articles submitted out of the standards required by the Journal will be returned to the authors for correction. After the second return due to norm irregularity a non-refundable tax in the value of R$ 70.00 (forty reais) will be required to adjust the manuscript to rules. The article will not be sent for review until it is rigorously in accordance with the writing standards of the Journal of Agronomical Science. It is mandatory that the ad hoc reviewers selected for each article to be from institutions other then that of the authors. The number of authors for each article should not be more then five, save for special reasons that are to be presented and accepted by the Editorial Committee. Upon the acceptance of the article, authors will be required to deposit the amount of R$ 100.00 to:

Opinions expressed in the articles are exclusive responsibility of their authors. The Journal of Agronomical Science retains the right to adapt the originals in order to maintain the uniformity of the publication.

Authors are requested to submit their papers electronically by using online manuscript submission available at www.ccarevista.ufc.br/submissão. This site will guide authors stepwise through the submission process.

In the online submission it is required:

  1. The agreement with copyright responsibility declaration, which will be exhibited during the submission of the article;
  2. the first version of the article must omit the author’s name with his or hers respective footnotes, as well as the footnote of the title;
  3. Only in the final version of the article should it contain all the names of the authors and the title with footnote identification.
  4. Paper Format

Typing: Printed in paper format A4, typed with double spacing, Times New Roman font, normal style, 12, indent of 1 cm. All borders should have 2.5 cm. The page numbers must be placed in the top-right corner of the page. The lines must be numbered in continuous form.

Copyright: Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to transfer copyright (for more information on copyright, see www.ccarevista.ufc.br/direitosautorais.pdf.

Manuscript: Articles should be organized in the following order: title, authors, abstract, key words (minimum 3 maximum 5) in Portuguese and English, introduction, material and methods, results and discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments (when necessary) and references. Study case can be written without subdivision, but they must have abstract and index terms in Portuguese and English. Study cases do not need to follow the article structure, but they must have an abstract (including key words) and a title written in English.

After acceptance of an article, the names, affiliations and e-mail addresses of all authors should be in the manuscript. Also, telephone and fax numbers, complete mailing address of the author to whom all correspondence should be included.

Title: It must be centralized, bolded and typed only with the first letter as upper case and it must not be longer than 15 words. The title should present a footnote to identify if the article was extracted from thesis/dissertation and references of financial support agency. The titles of the other sections must be in bold, only with the first letter in upper case and in left alignment.

Authors: the manuscript must present all authors’ full names, placed under the title, side by side, and information such as: their affiliation, fax number and e-mail address must come as a footnote. In case there is more than one author, please indicate to whom the correspondence should be addressed through a “*” in the footnote. Articles with more than five authors will only be accepted if it is proven that the research was carried out in distinct regions.

Abstract: It should be concise stating the method used, the main results and the conclusions, without use of reference and it must not be longer than 250 words. Articles in English or Spanish should start with an abstract in Portuguese. The Index terms words should not appear in the title

Key words: Should be composed of at least three and no more than five index terms, which should not included in the title. Each key word must start with a capital letter and be followed by a dot.

Introduction: Should be as concise as possible containing updated references that have a relation with the subject studied in the research. The citations in the introduction must be employed to fundament the result discussion. Introduction can not have more than 550 words.

References: the text references should be cited as follow: one author - Santos (2002) ou (SANTOS, 2002); two authors, - Pereira e Freitas (2002) or (PEREIRA; FREITAS, 2002); more than two authors - Xavier et al. (1997) or (XAVIER et al., 1997).

Tables: They should be identified as Table (in bold letters) and ordered by Arabic numerals and must be numbered according to their sequence in the text. The text should include references to all tables. Vertical lines should not be used to separate columns. Each data must occupy only one cell and the table must not be inserted as figure to avoid errors in typesetting. Title should have brief and self-explanatory. Units of measurement must appear in parentheses. Explanations that are essential to the understanding of the table should be given as footnotes at the bottom of the table. The heading must not be written in bold and/or higher-case letters. It is recommended that tables present 8,2 cm in width, not being superior to 17 cm.

Figures: graphs, photographs and illustrations will be defined as Figure (in bold) and ordered by Arabic numerals. In the final version, figures and photos must be saved as archives in one of these extensions: METAFILE, TIFF or EPS (preferably EPS). Photographs and illustrations should be scanned (500 ipd), saved at TIF or EPS and presented in a separate file. These archives should be generated in programs such as Corel, being the size and resolution of the picture or illustration defined during the making of the archive. The pictures must present 8,2 cm in width, not surpassing 17 cm. The used font should be Times New Roman, 9, and not in bold when identifying the axels. The axel lines must present black color and 2,5 mm in thickness. The Journal of Agronomic Science reserves itself the right not to accept tables and/or figures with paper in the form of “landscape” or that present more than 17 cm in width. Colored figures can be accepted provided that the reproduction costs are met by the author.

Tables and figures should be inserted right after their first citation.

Units: All units employed in the article should be in accordance with the SI units, except where they conflict with current practice or are confusing.

Numbers mentioned in sequence should be separated with “ ; “. Ex: 2.5; 4.8; 25.3

Equations: Should be typed using the equation editor from Word, with the font Times New Roman. The equations must have crescent Arabic numeration. They should follow the following pattern in size:

Whole number = 9 pt

Subscript/superscript = 7 pt

Symbol = 18 pt

Sub symbol = 12 pt

These definitions are found in the equation editor/size/define

n - sample size, with i = 1,2,....., n

Statistics:

  1. In case ANOVA, present the significance of “F”;
  2. Regression analysis should be used to analyze quantitative data;
  3. Regression equations should present the significance of the parameters;
  4. Depending on the study (e.g.: production function), the parameter signs should be analyzed

Acknowledgments: It must be located under conclusions. Style should be formal and clear

References: references should be ordered alphabetically by author´s names, and chronologically per author. More than three authors use “et al.” expression. 60% of total references used in the paper must be published in the least ten yeas. The local publication is facultative, but it is not acceptable abbreviation of periodic titles. The following system should be used for arranging references.
