The objective of this study was to evaluate and select common cashew clones. The experiment was placed on a private farm in May 1999. It was used a randomized block design with 40 clones, 3 replicates and 5 plants per plot, spaced 10 m x 10 m. Plant height (m) and canopy diameter (m) were measured for five years. Also, nut yield control (kg/plant/year) was done for two years. The clone Comum 30 showed the best nut yield performance, with 885 kg.ha-1 and 1,117 kg.ha-1, in the first and second year of production, respectively. Considering all agronomic and kernel traits together, the clones Comum 18, Comum 21, Comum 28, Comum 30, Comum 31 and Comum 36 are the most promising materials to be tested in wide scale. These clones may be recommended to be used for commercial purpose under unirrigated conditions in Beberibe county region, Ceará State, Brazil. The results also show that is possible to achieve significant success in the clonal selection of common cashew.
