A POÉTICA TRADUÇÃO FRANCESA DA NARRATIVA “CARA-DE-BRONZE” DE GUIMARÃES ROSA

Abstract

This is a study of the French translation of Guimarães Rosa's narrative "Cara-de-Bronze". The study aims to show how the French translation found solutions for the more regional terms and for the poetic prose so strong in Rosa's texts and specifically in the short story in question. The translation studied was made by Jean-Jaques Villard in 1969 and published under the title "Face of Bronze". This study sought out the author's correspondence with the translator and also texts and criticism by other authors, such as Benedito Nunes, on the French version. It was therefore observed that the French translation uses a more direct and less poetic language, trying to culturally adapt and translate some regionalisms that end up losing their meaningful and polysemic form in the French language.
