    Abstract

This article is destined to show that Hobbes cannot be seen as someone who subscribed the conception of homo faber proposed by Bacon. Hobbes certainly upheld the notion that nature is instrumental to human purposes. It will be proved, however, that it is incorrect to assume that he distorted the Aristotelian notions of ‘práxis and téchné’ and that such a distortion contributed to perpetuate the illusion that human beings can indiscriminately act over nature.
