First person. Autobiography. Émile Benveniste. Jacques Derrida.Abstract
This paper deals with the deadlocks that first-person writing creates in modern philosophical canon by taking into account the positions of Émile Benveniste and Jacques Derrida. The analysis is presented in three sections. In the first one, the problems that define the canonical opposition to autobiographical discourse from Modernity on are pointed out. Next, it takes up Benveniste's reading of J. Austin's theory of speech acts and its reformulation in the hypothesis of the "I" as an empty linguistic form. Finally, we reconstruct Derrida's criticism of Benveniste and its consequences for a new discourse-philosophical topology.
