Chaos, chance, and will to power: a nietzschean reading of reality

Abstract

This article investigates Friedrich Nietzsche’s critique of the traditional notion of world order, focusing on the articulation between chaos, chance, and will to power. Situated within the fields of ontology and the genealogy of values in Nietzschean thought, the study aims to demonstrate that concepts such as law, purpose, and value do not correspond to intrinsic structures of reality, but rather to interpretative constructs produced by human consciousness in response to the instability of becoming. The central problem questions whether the cosmos, as an intelligible order, is an objective reality or a construction designed to provide security and predictability to human experience. The research adopts a hermeneutic-analytical method, qualitative in nature, based on a close reading of key works such as The Gay Science, Dawn, On the Genealogy of Morality, and posthumous fragments. The analysis shows that, for Nietzsche, the world is best understood as a dynamic field of forces without finality or unity, in which chance plays a constitutive role. It concludes that order is a functional fiction, morality a historical creation, and knowledge a form of interpretation, thus redefining the human being as a creator of meaning in a groundless world.
